Author, historian and broadcaster. Born in Harrow, England, he migrated to Western Australia in 1912 with his family, settling in Victoria Park. Later he moved to the South-West where he worked at tree-felling and land clearing on Group Settlements from 1922 to 1929. He became a plumber, eventually managing his own business as a master plumber. During World War II, he was stationed at Pearce and Busselton Air Force Stations.
